(presented at HPS Summer Conference 2009)

Want to learn how to take better pictures? In this session, we’ll cover digital photography tips, techniques, and common terms. Whether you have a point-and-shoot or more advanced camera, this session will provide you with resources and ideas to help you use your camera effectively. Feel free to bring your camera, if you wish. Ideas and resources for using digital cameras in the classroom will be shared.

Instructional Tie: Digital cameras are tools that can be used for all kinds of digital storytelling projects in the classroom. Helping students understand some basic composition and camera functions will provide opportunities for creative and effective design in their projects.

In this session, we’ll learn about the features of Picasa and spend some time exploring the editing options embedded in this program. We’ll discuss how Picasa can help you organize your photos. Ideas for using and editing photos for classroom projects and activities will be shared.

Instructional Tie: Using images in classroom projects and activities is a beneficial instructional strategy for students, giving them a visual connection to content.
